I
am a mixed media artist. In my artwork I use
combinations of painting, collage, papier mache,
handmade paper, and whatever works! I richly
embellish my works and strive to create layers
of textures and subtleties that unfold gradually
to the viewer.
Sometimes I
create two-dimensional and three-dimensional
works simultaneously; insights and
synchronicities reveal themselves as paintings,
collages, masks and related objects are created
in relation to one another.
My work is
narrative and often reflects a personal
mythology. Part of my process is to make room
for visual surprises to manifest themselves. My
artwork is a celebration of magic and life; it
has elements of humor, joy and ritual. I blend
spiritual overtones with my particular
concoction of whimsy to create a reflection of
what I believe in and what I would like to see
manifested in the real world.
My
professional training includes a B.F.A. from
Ohio University, and a Master of Arts in
painting form San Jose State University. In
conjunction with my studio work as an artist, I
have taught art over the past 20 years to people
of all ages in classrooms, workshops and museum
sites.
I am
currently an Artist in Residence through a
California Arts Council grant at Mendocino
Grammar and Middle Schools. I also regularly
offer workshops in collage and papier-mache at
the Mendocino Art Center (www.mendocinoartcenter.org).
I've resided in Mendocino County since 1981; my
home and art studio are currently located in
Fort Bragg.
